Jewellery Care
Bluebird jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed. A little gentle care will help the silver, pearls, natural stones, ribbons and cords stay beautiful for longer.
A few simple habits
Most Bluebird pieces do not need complicated care. A few gentle habits are usually enough to help them stay beautiful for longer.
- Keep it dryTake your jewellery off before showering, swimming or spending a long time in water.
- Jewellery comes lastApply perfume, creams, hairspray and cosmetics first, then put your jewellery on once they have settled.
- Give it a little restRemove delicate pieces for sport, housework or other activities where they may be pulled, knocked or exposed to chemicals.
- Store it gentlyKeep pieces separately in a dry place so stones, pearls and metal parts do not rub against one another.
Different materials, slightly different care
Many Bluebird pieces combine several materials in one design: Silver 925, pearls, natural stones, ribbon, cord or silk thread. When a piece mixes different materials, I recommend caring for it as gently as you would care for its most delicate element.
For example, a necklace with silver, pearls and ribbon should not be treated like a plain silver chain. The pearls and textile deserve the gentler approach.
Care by material
The material details on the product page are the best starting point for your own piece. These general tips cover the materials I use most often.
Silver 925
Silver can naturally darken or tarnish over time. This is normal and does not mean the piece is damaged. For a simple silver element, gently buff the surface with a soft, dry silver polishing cloth. Avoid household cleaners and aggressive polishing products. If the silver is combined with pearls, stones, ribbon or cord, do not dip the whole piece into silver-cleaning liquid.
Pearls & natural stones
Wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. If needed, use a cloth that is only very slightly damp and dry the piece afterwards. Avoid soaking, steam cleaning, ultrasonic cleaners and strong detergents. Natural stones and pearls can differ in hardness and porosity, so gentle care is the safest choice.
Ribbon, cord & silk thread
Keep textile elements dry and away from perfume, creams and oils. Do not machine wash, soak or iron them. Store them without heavy objects on top and avoid pulling or tightening them more than necessary. A little softness and movement in ribbon or cord is part of the character of the piece.
Part of what makes it yours
Natural stones and pearls are never perfectly identical. Small differences in colour, veining, shape and surface are part of the material itself, and handmade details can also vary slightly from one piece to another.
Natural variation is not the same as damage. If you notice a crack, a loose component, a broken clasp or anything else that seems structurally wrong, please contact me and I will be happy to look at it with you.
Storage and travel
A little care while your jewellery is not being worn makes a real difference too.
- Keep pieces in a dry box, pouch or jewellery case.
- Store them separately where possible, especially pieces with pearls or softer stones.
- Fasten chains and necklaces before storing them to help prevent tangling.
- Avoid long-term storage in damp bathrooms or in strong direct sunlight.
- When travelling, place delicate pieces where they cannot be crushed or pulled by heavier items.
